Detailed Description

The Building and Construction Authority (BCA) is inviting feedback on proposed draft Code on Accessibility.

Background

2       The Code on Accessibility provides both mandatory provisions and non-mandatory design guidelines to help architects and building owners in designing the built environment for specific needs. As part of BCA’s regular review of the provisions in the Code, an Accessibility Code Review Committee chaired by BCA was formed in April 2017. The committee, comprising representatives from relevant government agencies, the building industry and voluntary welfare organizations (see  Annex A) aims to update the current Code to meet the needs of a wider spectrum of people.

3       The key objectives of the review are:

         a) To update the current Code in response to feedback and to meet the needs of the future;

         b) To enhance provisions for the elderly and persons with disabilities to support an inclusive and friendlier built environment.
