Detailed Description

As announced in March 2015, the Land Transport Authority (LTA) intends to develop a clear set of rules and norms to facilitate the use of footpaths and cycling paths safely and harmoniously. For this purpose, it has set up an advisory panel comprising 14 representatives from key stakeholder groups, such as seniors, youth, grassroots, cyclists, motorists, and users of personal mobility devices to propose a set of rules and norms for active mobility. The advisory panel is chaired by Parliamentary Secretary for Transport and Health, Associate Professor Muhammad Faishal Ibrahim. The advisory panel’s report is expected to be ready by the 2nd quarter of 2016.  

  
LTA will also be conducting a public consultation exercise to seek public views on how common space, such as footpaths and cycling paths, can be made safer for all users.  Through this, LTA will gather opinions from different stakeholder groups, including pedestrians, persons with disabilities, cyclists, users of personal mobility devices and motorists, on how different paths can be used safely. 

Members of the public can give their views via an online survey at www.activemobilitysurvey.com. The survey will end on 31 August 2015. As part of the consultation, LTA will also conduct several focus group discussions in October and November this year, to engage members of the public in more detailed discussion about their experiences and views. Members of the public can indicate their interest to participate in the focus group discussions when participating in the survey.
