Detailed Description
Public Consultation on Proposed Amendments to the Food Regulations Regarding The Use Of Dimethyl Dicarbonate (DMDC) In Food
Target Audience: Food Industry Partners
The Agri-Food & Veterinary Authority (AVA) of Singapore is seeking feedback from the food industry (local food manufacturers and importers), on the proposed amendments to the Food Regulations concerning the use of dimethyl dicarbonate (DMDC) in food.
2 DMDC is a permitted food preservative under the Food Regulations, and may be used only in non-alcoholic drinks subject to the conditions specified under Regulation 19 and the Fourth Schedule. The proposed amendments to the Food Regulations would allow the concurrent use of DMDC in beverages (both alcoholic and non-alcoholic) up to the maximum level of 250ppm, with other Class II chemical preservatives. Details of the proposed amendments can be found in the attached consultation document.
3 AVA welcomes views and comments on:
i. Whether the food categories and proposed use levels highlighted are reflective of current industry practices on the use of DMDC in food.
ii. Whether additional food categories should be included, and the rationale for inclusion.
4 All submissions should be clearly and concisely written, and should provide a reasoned explanation for any proposed revisions. Submissions should reach AVA no later than 12:00 p.m., 29 February 2012. Comments may be submitted in soft copy at the following web address:
