About REACH's Policy Study Workgroups
One of REACH's main roles is to promote citizen involvement and participation, and the Policy Study Workgroup is an initiative introduced to help achieve this goal. Five PSWs were formed in September 2007 to look into key challenges facing Singapore at that time and which were highlighted in the Prime Minister's National Day Rally 2007. These areas were:
i) ageing and health issues;
ii) education and human capital excellence;
iii) economic and employment opportunities;
iv) physical and environmental sustainability; and,
v) population and integration issues.
Comprising industry veterans and professionals in their respective fields, these high level workgroups were appointed to value-add to the Ministries' work through objective studies and reviews and make recommendations that the Ministries can consider. This initiative promotes an active citizenry through citizen participation and involvement and brings together Singaporeans to work in unison and develop a sense of ownership in the policy formulation process by developing ideas into concrete proposals for the government's consideration.
REACH has formed our second batch of Policy Study Workgroups, looking into health, integration and manpower issues. We look forward to their recommendations in 2010!
