CPI up by 5.2% in 2011

CPI up by 5.2% in 2011

The overall Consumer Price Index (CPI) for 2011 increased by 5.2%, compared with 2010.  The top 20% and middle 60% income groups experienced a higher increase of 5.7% and 5.1% respectively, while the bottom 20% income group saw a lower increase of 4.7%. Accommodation costs and food prices contributed to the CPI inflation for all three income groups, while higher car prices added to the higher CPIs for the middle and highest income groups.  What else can be done to help households cope with the impact of rising prices?  Share your views with us!
