MSF Replies on Foster Care

Contributor Janan Lee remarked that foster care in Singapore provides alternative care arrangements for children below the age of 18 and wanted to find out what would happen to youths who age out of the system.

The reply from the Ministry of Social and Family Development is:

Dear Janan,

Foster care is an alternative care arrangement for children and young persons below 18 years old.  In some circumstances, foster care extends to young persons up to 21 years of age if they are still in the schooling system.  However if they are not in the schooling system after 18 years old, the Fostering Service would prepare these youths for independent living and explore other care arrangements for them such as youth hostels.
