80% of Tower Transit's Bus Captain Posts Filled

About 80% of the 750 bus captain positions that Singapore’s incoming public transport operator, Tower Transit, is offering have been filled, the operator announced yesterday (15 Dec).

Some 320 new hires are drivers on 26 services from the Jurong East, Bukit Batok and Clementi interchanges under the Bulim Package that Tower Transit won. Around 45 drivers are from incumbent operators on other routes who have switched over to the new operator.

More than 40 of its new bus-driver hires are below the age of 35, with the youngest aged 24.

Additionally, Singaporeans make up 70% of Tower Transit’s workforce to date, said its managing director Andrew Bujtor.

“That's indicative of a changing attitude among locals towards a profession that's starting to be recognised for its importance,” he added.

Existing bus captains have until 31 Dec to sign up with Tower Transit.
