More Space for Commuters at 17 MRT Stations

Commuters at 17 MRT stations along the North-South and East-West lines will have more space while waiting for the train by 2018. Station platforms will be expanded, including covering some existing voids and reconfiguring station seats.

In a statement released by the Land Transport Authority (LTA) yesterday (20 Oct), LTA Chief Executive Chew Men Leong said the LTA is looking to enhance older MRT stations by creating additional space at some of the stations so as to make public transport travel a more pleasant experience for commuters. The improvements are also “part of the overall rejuvenation of the rail network”.

Work is expected to commence by the middle of 2016, with the majority being carried out during non-service hours to minimise inconvenience to commuters.
