MRT stations between Bugis and Tanah Merah along the East-West line will close half an hour earlier from Sundays to Thursdays, except on the eve of public holidays.
The early closure of nine stations, to facilitate the replacement of sleepers used to hold the tracks in place, will last till the the end of this year.
Sleeper replacement works along the East-West Line will be conducted in three phases, starting with the stretch between Bugis and Tanah Merah. The second phase, which will affect stations between Joo Koon and Jurong East and Pasir Ris and Tanah Merah, will start in early 2016. The final phase will affect stations between Jurong East and Outram park, and work on the line is expected to be completed by early 2017.
The early closure of 30 minutes each night will allow SMRT to replace about 25 per cent more sleepers. With the new sleepers, commuters can look forward to a smoother and safer ride.
