A new mobile app that updates commuters on affected lines and alternative routes during a major network-wide rail disruption may be available by end of this year.
During disruptions, commuters will also see flashing beacon lights at bus stops to inform commuters where free boarding of buses is available. When activated, these lights will signal to bus captains and commuters that free boarding of bus services has been activated.
The Land Transport Authority (LTA) shared some of the contingency measures at a joint exercise with SMRT and SBS Transit on Wednesday (14 Oct) to test an enhanced incident management plan.
Staff from the public transport operators will be activated as Crisis Support Team (by SMRT) or Goodwill Ambassadors (by SBS Transit) to manage the surge in commuters at all train stations and interchanges.
Leaflets that guide commuters to alternative operational MRT lines and bus services will be available and commuters will also receive regular updates at the stations.
What do you think of these measures?
