Public Consultation on MediShield MediShield is a basic and catastrophic insurance scheme that aims to cover as many Singaporeans as possible, to help us pay for larger hospital bills. It is reviewed from time to time to ensure meaningful and sustainable coverage for Singaporeans. The Ministry of Health (MOH) is seeking public feedback on proposed changes to the scheme, to better protect Singaporeans and make it more inclusive. Closed
Public Consultation Paper on the Voluntary Sterilization (Amendment) Bill The Voluntary Sterilization Act (“VSA”) legalises sterilization in Singapore for social reasons and permits registered medical practitioners to carry out the procedure in authorised healthcare establishments. The Ministry of Health (MOH) proposes to amend the VSA to ensure that the VSA continues to remain relevant. It is timely to update the VSA to clarify that a person’s consent must be obtained for sterilization, as long as he/she has the mental capacity, as defined under the Mental Capacity Act (MCA), to make such a decision. With the amendment, our laws will also be updated to conform to the UN Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities. Closed
Public Consultation on Proposed Measures to Monitor Errant Prescribing of Benzodiazepines As part of the Ministry of Health’s (MOH) efforts to better monitor prescribing patterns of benzodiazepines and to prevent the inappropriate use of addictive drugs, MOH is proposing to make it mandatory for all doctors to enter dispensing details for all benzodiazepines into a web-based Central Drug Prescribing Registry (CDPR) system. Besides enabling MOH to monitor prescribing patterns for these drugs, the system will allow doctors to identify “doctor-hopping” behaviours of potential drug abusers who may visit different clinics to get their drugs.
