Snapshots of Hot Issues

22 Feb 2012, 12.32PM
REACH contributors have shared with us their 'wishlist' for Budget 2012 from December 2011 to February 2012, with social issues, employment and the economy taking top spot as the most discussed feedback topics.

To build an inclusive society and a stronger Singapore – this was the mission stated by Finance Minister Tharman Shanmugaratnam in his Budget 2012 speech on 17 February. He also said that Budget 2012 is a 'budget for the future'.  Budget 2012 also marks a significant step-up in support for three groups of Singaporeans - the elderly, disabled and low-income.

Find out how Budget 2012 has addressed the feedback and 'wishlist' from REACH contributors:
While Budget 2012 has addressed the key feedback topics raised by REACH contributors, some contributors have highlighted other areas that they wished to be addressed as well. These include more measures to boost Singapore's birthrate and promote family life, as well as extending greater support to some segments of the community including singles and the sandwiched middle-income group.

Various Ministries will be announcing more details of their respective initiatives and updates during the Committee of Supply in March.  Stay tuned for more updates on REACH, and keep your feedback coming!

REVISED  EDUSAVE  AWARD

THE EDUCATION MINISTER IN BUDGET 2012 has removed the top 5% of students in each level and course awarded previously in the Edusave Scholarships.

This move WILL spell DISGRUNTLE outcome especially in future General Elections when this group of citizens cast their votes!!This will be a very lasting result to PAP.
