Listening Points

Listening Points

Listening Points are open concept mobile feedback booths for Singaporeans to obtain information and give feedback on government policies. They also serve as platforms for the Government to obtain ground sensing and explain policies to the public, e.g. Budget, National Day Rally etc.

REACH Listening Points started out with members of the public penning down their thoughts on Post-it notes, which were later collected and collated by officers. Gradually, REACH evolved by digitalising our ground operations by leveraging technology such as QR codes iPads to facilitate the feedback collection process.

During the Circuit Breaker (CB), REACH migrated online to continue our ground sensing work. This entails conducting e-Listening Points in lieu of face-to-face engagement. During the last seven months, REACH was able to reach out to more than 30 special interest communities and groups such as taxi drivers, flight crew, rental flat residents, healthcare workers, parents, students, teachers and jobseekers among others.

DIALOGUES AND FOCUS GROUP DISCUSSIONS

Dialogues and FGDs

Apart from annual flagship dialogues for Budget and National Day Rally, REACH also organised dialogues and focus group discussions with: Institutes of Higher Learning on housing affordability, co-creating Singapore’s digital future, as well as community groups on topics such as race and religious harmony, marriage and parenthood.

Over the last few months, REACH has also moved away from large scale physical dialogues to virtual conversations conducted over the Zoom platform to engage the public and continue to seek feedback on key national issues related to COVID-19.

REACH is currently organising a series of Emerging Stronger Conversations to reach out to different communities in Singapore such as clan associations and youths, among others. The Emerging Stronger Conversations enable participants to share their hopes for what Singapore could look like as we emerge from COVID-19. In the spirit of Singapore Together, these conversations will lead to action.

REACH INTERACTIVE WHATSAPP CHATS

To date, REACH is the only government agency that operates an interactive, two-way digital platform for public engagement. This has allowed us not just to push out government messages one-way, but facilitate discussion and mutual understanding among citizens – this was especially useful during the COVID-19/Circuit Breaker period where fellow citizens address one another’s concerns and share useful information among them.
