Really? "Higher Salaries"??
The Straits Times Reported that despite offering "higher pay" (meaning used to be offered $360 five years ago now being offered $500 as starting pay).
Very few Singaporeans applied for the Cleaner job.
THIS IS SURPRISING??!
I am not surprised you cannot get anyone to rush for the job. This is also true for Childcare Teachers WITH DIPLOMAs -- being offered $400 per month for half day teaching! Also no one rushing to work.
Further in the Report in todays ST, the reporter interviewed 3 group types:
The Cleaning Company -- Who obviously are complaining about so called "picky" Singaporeans. Despite their generous "HIGHER" Salaries. I wonder what the profit margins are of these Cleaning Companies? Anyone know if the bosses (owners) drive Mercedes and live in bungalows?
The authorities - Who have two pressures --Cleaner shortage complaints by companies who want a free pass to hire cheap foreign labour. And locals who are jobless and have been "left behind". Solution? Refer them to Cleaning Companies lor... Ms Lee Bee Wah proudly said that she refers jobless people from her constituency (I am guessing old..) to cleaning company. THEN SHE ADDS SOMEWHAT CONDESCENDINGLY "Some of them are able to overcome the hard work and make very good cleaners"!!
Happy Cleaners (current): Of course they say happy things lor..
How about interviewing the thousands that REJECT this job because of the ridiculously low pay that they are offered? Surely then perhaps Minister LSS can reflect on supporting a MINIMUM WAGE??
Can?
