I heard this ridiculous case ... the ineffectiveness of CPF to understand the issues .. just follow a book ..

A CPF member, age 85 years old .. recently was hospitalised .. his Medisave account do not have enough funds but his Ordinary still has balance .. he requested to transfer this to Medisave so that his bills can be paid...

CPF officers ask him to gp down personally to CPF offices to effect his transfer .. he is so frail that he said that he will not be able to go to CPF offices .. luckily, one of the CPF officers took to initiate to do the transfer without the need to go down to CPF ..

This is more ridiclous  ... he has a Retirement Account(RA) balance .. he now has exhausted both his Ordinary and Medisave account .. he now request that his hospital bills be paid by this Retirement Account .. to his suprise, CPF rejected this as CPF inform him the the RA balnce can only be withdrawn and given to his beneficary upon his DEATH ... so money cannot be used when he is alive .. money to go to soemone when he DIES ????

Q:   What is the Retirement Account?

A: The Retirement Account is set up to meet your basic needs during your old age. When you reach 55, you will need to set aside your Minimum Sum, using the savings in your Special and Ordinary Accounts, in the Retirement Account. You can then withdraw the rest of the savings in your Ordinary and Special Accounts in one lump sum.

If the above statement is true, unless the poor soul is still working at 85 n still contributing to CPF, that's why got $ in ordinary account?

Retirement Account are tied to Minimum sum, where they hold bulk of one's money, and trickle little by little to pay one back through monthly payment, depending what one could save, up to max of current minimum sum.
To explain in detail of Minimum sum will be too complex, as one will have to go further into another level of scheme, called the CPF life, and then there's a further hurder, where one got to overcome, called the drawn down age, haizz, in order to shorted the replies, I thus summarize as below:

So, the Retirement account is sort of one's money, and not one's money, one can get back little by little, determine by the amount one left inside, but one cannot dictate how or when one want to withdraw or transfer, in a way, it is not wrong to say, whatever is remain after one goes back (die liao), the remaining $ will be allocate to one's beneficaries.

Not everyone agreed with the scheme, but when most voted to whom they wanted to rule over them, even one's unhappy with the ruling, can only ***** thumb and live with it. In summary, you are right in your own assumption, but not in view of the previlage lots who make the ruling, who are elected by majorities who think they are best to decide what is best for all.

That's why we need these illogical rationale whenever we found one .. NOT .. VOTE THE PAP OUT .. how sure are you if the OPPOSITION will not to do the same .. address the issue and not continue to comment .. VOTE PAPM out .. it is just a waste of time and money for saying so
