While we still enforce Cannabis prohibition under penalty of death here in Singapore, the rest of the world is attempting to legalize it, decriminalize it, use if for medical purposes, etc.

The largest group form around legalizing Cannabis is NORML which mission is to legalize Cannabis for all uses in North America.

From research all over the internet, Cannabis was made illegal for all the wrong reasons by America's first drug Czar, Harry J Anslinger, by promoting Yellow Journalism, misinformation, corruption and racism.

The Cannabis plant itself is a wonderful plant used for thousands of years by many cultures for recreation, medicine, food, fuel, textile, paper and many many more. Popular mechanics back in 1938 dubbed the Cannabis plant to be "The billion dollar crop" with over 26000 possible uses.

Some even have quoted that the Cannabis plant itself may have the cure for Cancer.

But the most glaring of all,

many independent scientists have classified Cannabis as less dangerous, less addictive and less intoxicating than alcohol.

What is the government's reasoning for enforcing the death penalty on a substance less dangerous than alcohol?

any *****s will agree!

in the west, they even give free to the drug addicts so as to decrease the chance of them stealing, into more serious crimes, a nuisance to the rest of society.

So, can you see the whole cycle of this drugs????

Are you happy if your neighbours are drug addicts?

It is a thriving business though. So, wondering which side are you on?

Can you see the who cycle of alcoholism????

Are you happy if your neighbour is an alcoholic?

Your government have trained you well to automatically associate people who use "drugs" as drug addicts.

But think about it for a minute. Why isn't your streets littered with drunks eventhough your NTUCs and 7-11 sells Jack daniels over the counter?

Cannabis is not a hard drug like Heroin or crystal meth. It is merely a plant. You need to understand the difference. Cannabis is less dangerous than alcohol, not by opinion but by SCIENTIFIC FACTS.

I surely WILL NOT like it if my neighbour is an alcoholic! Would you?

I'm guessing you're either American, ex-american or brainwashed by US pro-drug propoganda. in this country, people KNOW drugs are bad because we've already had a deep dark history of drug abuse causing all kinds of social problems.

Your argument that "cannabis is a drug" is completely *****ic. Morphine, heroin and even meth were once medicines with all sorts of benefits attributed to them. That doesn't mean we can now shoot ourselves up and become healthier. furthermore, pro-cannabis junkies love the "alcohol and cigarettes are more dangerous" argument - maybe you haven't considered the fact that The Reason why they kill more people is BECAUSE they're not controlled.

i may not support the authorities in many of their policies, but their policy to keep potheads and junkies off our streets is something i fully support.

I have read the "drug" history and current "drug" trend in South East Asia.

The problem is your country's leaders don't have any understanding about drugs or the dose law.

***** and Morphine are Opiates derived from the Opium plant which is exact same plant which cause the Opium war.

Crystal Meth or Methamphetamine is a synthetic street drug that is made of combining several drugs together to create hallucinogenic effect.

From your tone, I bet you are the kind of person who don't understand Cannabis beyond why Reefer madness has taught you. I bet you can't even tell how many different Cannabinoids have been classified by independent scientists. How many different strains of Cannabis out there. Can you even differentiate Cannabis Indica and Cannabis Hemp? Do you know that there are other ways of consuming Cannabis beyond smoking? If you cannot answer these few questions, then you are not qualified to decide if Cannabis is "bad".

Also, "all drugs are bad" shows what little knowledge you have on "drugs". Panadol is a drug, Caffeine from coffee is a drug, Ethanol from Tiger beer is also a drug.

Calling Cannabis users potheads makes as much sense as calling those uncles at Kopitiams  drinking Tiger beer as vile alcoholics.

And I love how you say Cannabis kills people. Did you know that there have never been any medically recorded literature on people overdosing on Cannabis. This is because NO ONE have ever died of Cannabis EVER. It is literally impossible to Overdose on Cannabis as the toxic amount of Cannabinoid is if someone smokes in the range of 300,000 rolls of Cannabis in 15mins.

Please gain some knowledge before spouting nonsense that Cannabis is dangerous. The only danger Cannabis have in Singapore is the government hanging people for it.

i love how you keep spouting literature fom pro-cannabis authors, its like saying drugs are cool cuz of that one handful of people saying so.

i can see you're fixed on having your cannabis fix, so my advice to either go back to your country where, as you keep saying, they intend to legalise it; or if you're not even in our country, to stay the hell out, cos make mistake, most of us would have no sympathy for you if you hang. We don't condone drug use in this country ,and you'd do well to remember it.

Well I guess you don't care about the 5000 Singaporeans who die from Cancer annually which could have easily been Cured with Cannabinoid treatments....

I guess you also don't care about the thousands of elderly whom are suffering from Alzhymer's disease which can be prevented or even stopped by cannabis

I guess you also don't care about the thousands of Singaporean who are suffering from diabetic ulcers which could be healed with Cannabis oil.

Or how about, because it doesn't seem to get through to you, Cannabis is SCIENTIFICALLY safer than alcohol and your government hang people for a substance SCIENTIFICALLY safer than alcohol.

Ya know, I'm tired of showing all the evidence that cannabis is beneficial to man kind. I challenge you to prove to me with scientific or reliable or multiple sources that Cannabis is dangerous to health (more dangerous than alcohol).

Prove to me that Cannabis is dangerous. (Note: Not Heroin, not meth, not *****, just Cannabis)

No one is bothered to look at or even entertain your "let us do cannabis" plea.

And don't even try to portray cannabis like it's some miracle drug just to make it look so holy. We've all seen this "miracle drug" thing before with heroin, LSD, meth. and even opium, the drug that made all of Asia weak at the knees and grovelling before its colonial 'masters'. We Asians decided NEVER AGAIN.

So until the international science community can all agree on cannabis having medical use and not being dangerous, you can take your pseudoscience and cannabis-bible-thumping nonsense to another country.

Wow. How Xenophobic can you guys be...?

Here I am, providing scientific FACTS and EVIDENCE while you guys are still clinging to old OPINIONS.

Worst still, you chose to focus more on if someone is a foreigners instead of Scientific facts. Well if you want to play the nationality card, here goes. My country's scientist is able to split atoms, what can your dinky little country's scientists do?

Do you even know the history of the "war against drugs" and how Cannabis got on the list?

Go find out before you label others as pro this and that.  Stop advertising your ignorance.

Foreigners interfering in Singapore politics? Keep this drug law, otherwise no different than the West. Why must copy the West? Who says must copy from the West?

You are ABSOLUTELY right.

why copy the failures?

It is frightening as Kishore pointed out this sunday on CNN, GPS Fareed Zakiara that America will be the 2nd power in 3.5 yrs time!

He pointed out the decline of the western power.

Well, of cos' the western minds will NEVER admit it.

But, the truth is out there to be seen.

That's always the difference between the pragmatism and idealism.

If only the west is more pragmatic, we won't have the shi@ty euro mess.

CANNABIS CAN KILL YOU

ANN WIDDECOMBE'S demand for a zero tolerance approach to drugs has been met, predictably, with calls for a softer line on the use of cannabis.

Top politicians, police chiefs and even some doctors are implying the drug should be regarded as a "safe" way to relax.

But they are the dopes.  Cannabis KILLS.

Cannabis smoke contains FOUR TIMES as many cancer-causing chemicals as tobacco smoke, and can also lead to lung cancer, bronchitis and emphysema.

What cancer treatment you are talking about ?

There is also evidence it can trigger heart attacks.

The drug can cause hallucinations, aggravate schizophrenia and other mental disorders and undermine the effects of anti-psychotic treatment.

Other effects include infertility and impotence.  Excessive use has been linked to low sperm count and, in women, reduced fertility.

Supporters claim the drug relieves pain.  Indeed, the Government is funding trials to see if it can help multiple sclerosis sufferers.

But the trials use a special type of cannabis inhaled as a vapour which does not allow the user to get high.

So you think you can cheat us ( Singaporean ) on this ? Think you can buy at 7-eleven liao ?

When the active element THC ( tetrahydrocannabinol ) is in full force in the illegal variety, it is dangerous.

As a cannabis smoker inhales, about 400 different chemicals are released into the bloodstream via the lungs.

It then rushes straight to the brain.

The pulse rate increases, blood pressure goes down, eyes become bloodshot and the mouth dry.

The "high" effects start minutes after smoking and can last up to four hours.

Many of the fifty-something liberals who praise the drug they took in their youth need to look at the facts.  A shocking report earlier this year showed that smoking dope was worse for your health than smoking cigarettes.

This is because users like to inhale more deeply and keep the smoke in their lungs for as long as they can, to get the maximum high.

But they are depositing four times more burnt waste in the mouth, throat and windpipe than with cigarettes.

The study at New York's Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Centre showed the risk of head and neck cancer was 2.6 times greater among cannabis users than those who had never used it.

Cannabis use can lead people to think they can drive safely when they are lethal accidents waiting to happen.

The drug stays in the body's fatty tissues for several days after use.  Smoking cannabis on a Saturday might impair your ability to drive until the following Wednesday.

In countries where tests are carried out, more drivers have accidents under the influence of marijuana than alcohol.

Unlike tobacco, cannabis persistently alters the molecular mechanisms of the brain.

Researchers have proved that users will develop short-term memory loss.

Regular users slowly become dependent and often fail to realise they are hooked.

They become lethargic and lack motivation.  Cannabis is "a stealthily noxious substance" says consultant psychiatrist Dr Andrew Wilski, of the Pembury hospital in Tunbridge Wells, Kent.

He says of regular users"With time, a state of low motivation with reluctance to make constructive efforts in life develops.  This can lead to a general sloth, aimlessness and depression.

"I am convinced that wide use of the drug would in the long run cause terrible psychological and social devastation."

There is also evidence that smoking cannabis can trigger heart attacks in older people.

A study in Boston, Massachusetts, showed the drug could increase the risk of cardiac arrest five-fold by increasing the heart rate by up to 40 beats per minute.

Other scientists found that the drug could cause cancerous tumours to grow faster by suppressing immunity.

Dr Steven Dubinett from the University of California, said"THC may encourage tumour growth."

Professor David London is part of a team of eminent physicians and psychiatrists who spent two years investigating the impact of drugs.  He said"I don't think anyone should go away with the idea that cannabis is safe.

"We know the effects of tobacco.  I would hate it if in ten years there were a similar epidemic of disease from the effects of cannabis smoking."

All the above arguements will lead to flames and distorted facts.

while there might be some truth in the report that some part of the cannabis plant can be beneficial to our health in curing healing and relief of pain etc. More studies should be conducted by Singapore Health Ministry or HSA to determine the effects, methods, dosage, who needs them, side effects, methods to control distribution, prescriptions etc etc. This is on the healthy benefit/medical part.

On the legality part, I do agree that cannabis should not be made legally and freely available like in some countries just because there is some benefits to it. It should be controlled , kept away from abuse, we singapore have earned our reputation to be a clean, safe & efficient country. That;'s why we are a financial centre, that's why we have free ports, we high standards of living, safe environment for our kids, schools etc. We do not allow drugs to be freely available like you can buy at 7-11.

On another note, I do support that the death penalty be revised/ removed even for drug offences. The call for decriminalized cannabis possesion/consumption etc can and should be considered, no life is so unworthy that 1 mistake cost his entire life, even he is not sentenced to death, life imprisonment can lead to discrimination against ex convicts, his life path etc etc.. Let it be a stiff fine, a stern hefty fine instead of criminal charges against the person with small amount. Traffickers/dealers should have imprisonment terms.

Who's that angmoh throwing crap on this forum against us telling us how we should run our country?? We don't need to import values from failing society over here. Cannabis is highly tolerated in Sydney. Head over there and take a look at the kind of problems they have with drug abuse as a result. No, we are Asians, we have our own values and way of life and we don't need to buy into new problems simply because our strict laws offend the sensitivities of some White lackeys. Singapore's strict anti-drug stance (including cannabis) has helped her succeed as the safest country in the world. Take a look at the West - the USA, Australia, Denmark - those countries tolerate cannabis and those are also the biggest losers in the War on drugs. Unlike here in Singapore, where we've never had the need to even wage a war against drugs in the first place.

Yeah cannabis may have its medical value, just like opiates, not saying no. Opiates are good painkillers and we have access to those in the form of codeine, prescribed by doctors, and morphine, given at hospitals. Doesn't mean we gotta legalize heroin now and let everyone go shoot up just to relieve pain now does it?

Same for cannabis. I'm not sure if we are already utilizing those cannabinoids in hospitals here, but even if we do, it will be regulated and prescribed by morphine. That doesn't mean we have to start selling cannabis or packaged joints over counters in 7/11 and kopitiams, just because its supposed to have some kind of medicinal value!

Did you just have a brainfart white boy? Or are so doped out on skunk that you can't even think straight? Which ***** will endorse 'smoking' something as a medicine? Yeah cure one ailment and buy into a whole bunch of other problems! That's what you are trying to preach to us??

Our anti-drug laws have worked just fine and they shall stay, whether your white butt likes it or not. And if you don't like it, get the f&%k out of our country and go back to whichever dump u came out of. We are not obliged to change our way of life to please others.

*peace*
