The company nowdays are paid too low for the internship. Even offer Permanent contracts ? The Wages is far far lower compare with the INFLATION NOWDAYS. Companies are charging their clients at such a high price that if they employ a internship to work at $400 dollars per month. They can profit almost $10,000 to $15,000 from the internship immediately.

Of course it's the attitude that you are allow to choose. But most of the student found after the internship. They are made-used for their "FREE labour" espicially after MOM tied the foriegn labours a bit due to LAST election 2011.

It's nothing to do with their parents. It's about the CUNNING business man in Singapore.

You are likely to gain more by being more positive and proactive during intership. Getting that additional few hundred more is not as important making use of the time and opportunity to acquire relevant experience and skill. The outlook for the global economy remains bleak and from what I read the situation is likely to worsen as the year ends. The forecast for 2013 does not get any better.

Exactly.  Internships are good prep for the reality but those on internships should be paid fairly.  $400 is too miserly,  think of the poor child's daily expenses and transportation - is it enough?  If it isn't enough for you, likewise it isn't for him/her either.

Think if he/she is your child or even you yourself.... Would you accept $400?

Obviously ,there must be an standard Internship fee of  at least $800 imposed otherwise these companies would expolit these youths in performing an adult's work which they would naturally have to pay for if the person empoyed  is an adult!

This is just a small allowance for the student's benefit to gain exposure. Often these students are able to contribute in a very limited way. In the past they used to do all sorts of manual and data entry work. With technology, this is no longer the case.

If the students feel strongly about it, they can always quit. No need to get all worked up and have a sense of obligation on either side.

Usually bosses dare not ask intern to develop something for the production environment, such that they can in turn ask client for more than $400 per DAY. If they do that, they are taking a real big risk: they have to either pray that the system will not breakdown, or ask a number of senior guys to hand-hold the interns closely - review the deliverables multiple times, and do testing many times. Bosses will also face the consequences of losing the knowledge passed to these interns as they will leave the projects even before completion.

If an intern can do what a perm staff does, he is likely to offer a job before the internship is over. The intern doesn't even need to go for any interview but is secured a job before graduation.

So internship is not an abuse. Young people are not so *****.

But $400 is indeed too little now. That was the amount 10 years ago.

BTW, how much is Army paying NSF now?  Do they also take inflation into consideration?
