Some have questioned the need for a national conversation about the future when there are current issues like the rising cost living and influx of foreigners to be tackled.  Addressing these concerns, Education Minister Heng Swee Keat said that while these concerns are real and the Government is looking into them, it is also important to think about the kind of Singapore we want in 20 years' time.

"We need to tackle immediate issues as well as plant the seeds of our future success,” said Minister Heng who is chairing the committee of younger ministers tasked to take a fresh look at current policies.

He added that Singapore needs to plan ahead so that the country stays relevant and engaged. “The shape of Singapore's future matters to all of us. How can we prepare our children for the future and ensure that our homeland provides many opportunities for our young people to fulfil their aspirations?” he said

Are you sure bold enough to shut down casinos for the sake of community progress? Very skeptical.

I am not the one who come up with shutting down casinos idea but I read the arguments and makes a lot of sense.

I like this strong idea - imagine if Singapore can show the world that we got guts to shut down multi millions dollars casinos, then foreigners will not bully us after seeing our bold daring actions, what else we dare not do.

Whoever thought of this idea is great, a way to revert back to our strength, red hot chilli padi to be feared.

Real shiok, the thought of it makes me feel proud to be Singaporean once again.

We seriously should consider this bold daring idea and we will dare to face all sorts of challenges in future.

I agree it looks like this should be the main step forward. The rest of the policies we can change along on the way.

We must start with right step, a step of bold, daring and strength to face future challenges.

We cannot start from a weak position and others will bully us or take advantage of us, Singaporeans and Singapore.

We need strong leaders willing to take this bold main step forward.

Let's look forward and not blame PAP for casinos mistakes. There is no point playing the blame game, it is no use at all.

Let's march forward together with bold right step forward with shutting down of multi-million dollars casinos for our future and children's future sake.

All in support, please email to government or MPs that we need to step bold with right step with shutting down of casinos.

We are all for Singapore and Singaporeans. Proud to be Singaporean once again.

I would like to correct the miniter's statement here.
Singapore's future matters to Singaporeans only, not to everyone because now we seems to have more PRs and foreigners here, if we continue to have this slack imiigratioon policies , very soon, there will be more PRs and foreigners than Singaporeans

Then, whatever happens to Singapore is really none of these immigramts business, they come here to make money to send back to their home country when the economoy is good but when Singapore collaspe, they all run back home leaving only Singaporeans here

Singaporeans have been telling the gahment but the problem is they are not listening.
It will be too late when the realise this.

They only hear what they want to hear and publish what they want you to read lah, we feedback shut down casinos, they don't hear or publish, then they turn around saying we never feedback and then go around asking for national conversation and review, this is so clownish and funny, hello focus on Singaporeans lah, focus on family lah, don't focus on gambling, casinos and gambling of property until nobody can give birth lah, good enough or not? sigh, they not listening as usual.

The COI had already spend ten million dollars to look into what the transport authority and the public transport companies had failed to do that caused the "great disruption" to the Singapore MRT system .

How much it is going to cost to set up another committee to look into what the government had failed to do in the last few decades.

I want NATIONAL SERVICE TO BE FAIR AND EQUAL IN ALL UNITS/VOCATIONS.

Currently, In camp training NSmen have to serve 10 ICT training in total, minimum 7 high key and 3 low key ICT,maybe. This DEPEND ON Units/Vocations PREFERENCE to make nsmen serve number of high key ICT to a possible max of 10 High key ICT and 0 low key ICT.

I SUGGEST to make nsmen more fairer and equal in all units/vocations,army,airforce,navy,home team.
Example ,STANDARDISED 8 HIgh key and 2 low key ICT to all nsmen regardless of units/vocations.

THIS WILL BE MORE EQUAL AND FAIR TO ALL NSMEN. Hence, fairer towards a better singapore.

I am beginning to understand and agree with this idea.

With boldness in our 1st step, there is hope and there is nothing we Singaporeans cannot work together to solve.

With weakness in our 1st step, where is the confidence and unity to solve anything?

This is our leader we are looking for.

Now that we have identify the problems of reducing population, fertility, family, community goals.

I am beginning to understand and agree with this idea of being bold and shutting down casinos first.

With boldness in our 1st step, there is hope and there is nothing we Singaporeans cannot work together to solve.

With weakness in our 1st step, where is the confidence and unity to solve anything?

This is our leader we are looking for.

Casinos very suay to PAP and Singapore. Once they are up, Singapore is polarised and split. Money for grades, corruption lah, foreigners insulting us lah, 1 GRC lost lah, more opposition to PAP lah. Take away these suay things that affecting us. Leave us in peace. We don't need casinos last time, so what got casinos, so very suay to PAP and Singapore. We old people prefer old Singapore. Young people can migrate to casinos countries and F1 countries if they like. Thank you fo reading.

I must share with you guys this related to casinos thing :-

This is serious - my shifu said more suay things to come, my shifu very good in this type of fengshui things, he said because Singapore didn't  do good deeds, bringing ruin, then we will be continuously getting suay
things. He say the way to get good things is to do good, do bad things of course get bad things, he said.  Shifu gave me a very good example if you horn others when driving, people will point fingers at you, if you
wave nicely, people will wave and say thank you, wow, my shifu is the best, no wonder Singapore going downhill.

I don't care if bold step 1st step or not, I think we have enough of suay things for Singapore for now, don't know what is next.

By logic, shutting down the multi-million dollars casinos are not going to solve our problems but if we carefully analyse this idea, it certainly looks like a winning idea, compared to what other starting points that are bold and decisive to the principle of our future community and population problems do we have?

On the surface this idea looks very ridiculous that we firstly set up the casinos and then made a U turn to shut them down. But the fact that we Singaporeans are bold enough to take such losses and boldness to make a U turn for the sake of our community and population and for our future sake will show to our competitors that this nation is to be feared for they are willing to sacrifice and take big losses for future sake. Is there any other bold step forward with big losses and big U turn to be made?

No doubt, there will be opposition criticising against this idea but more likely than not, men of talents will find reducing reasons to join opposition against PAP for PAP is back on the right track for population and community. There only remains foreign talents issues and influx that stands and irks men of talents against PAP and if that too is corrected, lesser reasons for men of talents to go against PAP. Men of talents are to be feared for they have appeared in GE 2011 and swung 10-14% votes against PAP. Can PAP take another hit of another 10-14%? If so, how many GRCs will be lost and can PAP recover from another 10-14% swing in votes?

I say let us be bold and decisive on this, shut down both casinos for the future of our nation and for our children's future. When that day comes, raise our heads up high and walk with pride that our nation is being led by bold leaders and bold men and women.

Do not be half bold and just implement casinos for tourists only. Be totally bold and decisive - shut both casinos down.

Must be joking to expect such real daring action to shut down casinos from them, they only bold enough to apologise during election only.

Don't expect too much, go through motion, everybody knows how to play their part, including citizens, end of the day, we back to square one and ***** ***** ***** or complain online again and they say actually minority complaining but votes kept dropping then the whole cycle repeat itself again and again.

Suay or not or choi, not interested, not believing whatever they say anyway, enough of believing propanganda all these years.

Singapore's Future Matters to Everyone ?? Really, is there a future for the average Singaporean ? So someone said that if Singaporeans do not start reproducing, this place will just fold up. To the average Singaporean, so what if this place just fold up - he has not much to lose.

If the authourities are sincere in wanting to make Singaporeans feel this is a place where their future is, then make it happen. No need to ask for feedback - you know what you need to do, we have enough of these 'wayang' attempts to make us feel as if the government is really concerned but very often, its all a show.

I am old enough to celebrated every year of the 47 years of National Day.
In 1965 we hear the rally cry of Merdeka !

Now after 47 years of independence, for some of us the future is NOW, after working away a whole life time and hoping to retire in dignity and watching grand children grow up. ( i am not that old yet to have grand children, but there is hope for the future)

There is no doubt that there will always be a tomorrow and a future. If the government of the day do not look after those that made what Singapore is today, how can the current generation have a hope for tomorrow ?

The Future which is highlighted here should be for SINGAPOREANS only. Not for those opportunists in transit.

We are not like the USA which can be the benfactor for EVERYONE.

So please don't short change Singaporeans and sell away our Future.
