The Singapore Kindness Movement (SKM) is collaborating with Temasek Polytechnic to launch a writing competition “Write for Kindness 2012”. This is for secondary school students to promote the kindness message of respect to pre-schoolers, through creating age-appropriate and culturally relevant children’s stories.

Reported in Channel NewsAsia, about 100 students from 17 schools attended the two-day programme during their holidays. They will then embark on the story-writing competition over a two-month period.

This initiative comes on the heels of a national graciousness index survey, that found Generation Y leading improvements in graciousness levels.

Sarah Lam, associate general secretary (education) of the SKM, said: "We are hoping that through story-writing competitions, they are able illustrate and write and share their personal stories about what it means to respect each other, and through them, we are able to have a personal view on kindness from their perspective to the younger generation..."

Do you welcome this initiative? How can Singaporeans be encouraged to be more gracious?

Please extend it all the way to Pre-U JC students.

From what I read of JC students in the recent events, they are clearly lacking in such "kindness" and lack the maturity expected of their level.

They even insult and use expletives wantonly in their personal blogs to attack no-holds-barred our heads of Government!

I mean I dont care if they use profanity in their homes with/on their parents as casually and as a usual "good morning" greeting, but to use it even on our Heads of State!?

They are a huge DISGRACE!

Dont believe me?!

Just go ask Reuben Wang!

"..lacking in kindness ....and maturity... They are a huge DISGRACE!
Dont believe me?!"

YOU ARE THE DISGRACE!
Check the title. Wht are you supposed to write here ? - KINDNESS !

YOU are kicking up dust when  it has already been settled, or has jealousy gotten  the better of you because Minister Teo and Reuben Wang have got over the misunderstanding and Min Teo has even  given Reuben an autographed book?

Instead, YOU are the one lacking in kindness and maturity - You lack forgiveness.

If you can't forget, at least you can forgive. Try.

I see no valid reason at all for such a decision.

WE can choose to be nasaty and rude all we want. Why bother??

You don't have to bother but you may face downhill later in life.

In life there are options, good over bad, kindness over nasty and rude, etc.

Why choose bad when you can be good?

You'll  feel  good when you  do good
You'll  feel bad when you do bad.
