Opening Remarks by SM Goh

A big Thank You to all of you, our active Contributors, for your support and participation!

The REACH Contributors' forum is an annual tentpole event for REACH to show appreciation to you, our active contributors, for your continued support. This year's event held on 12 March was graced by Senior Minister Goh Chok Tong and Minister Dr Vivian Balakrishnan.

In his opening remarks, Senior Minister highlighted the importance of giving Singaporeans a voice in and outside Parliament, which is where REACH comes into play. Having mooted the set-up of Feedback Unit in 1985 to foster participatory democracy and a more consultative Government, he observed that there is more two-way engagement now between the Government and citizens.

The forum saw active participation from about 150 REACH participants, who raised several issues such as problem gambling, coping with influx of foreigners, self-censorship and affordable housing for the elderly.

Several contributors also visited the revamped REACH's roving exhibition, and tried out its new interactive features such as the Photo Booth.
