Time-Stamping for Catered Food & Packed Meals

NEA has announced that caterers will be required to time-stamp all buffet meals and packed meals with effect from 15 Feb 2012. The time-stamp will inform consumers of the recommended four-hour time limit for the consumption of cooked food to to mitigate their chances of food poisoning.

Specialised homes for vulnerable children & youths

MCYS will invest $13 million to set-up six Small Group Homes to provide specialised services for children with higher emotional, social and development needs.  MCYS will also roll out other initiatives including resilience building programmes for children who have undergone trauma, assessment tools for Homes to better understand the needs of children under their care and a training framework for staff working in children's Homes. Enhancing Train Capacity

The Land Transport Authority (LTA) and SMRT have awarded contracts worth more than $600 million in an effort to increase train capacity and reduce waiting time.
There will additional trains for the North-East Line (NEL) and the Circle Line (CCL), and the signalling system of the North South East West (NSEW) Lines will be upgraded.

PUB Outlines Plans to Fight Floods

PUB Outlines Plans to Fight Floods

PUB has announced its plans to strengthen Singapore’s flood resilience, following the recommendations by the Expert Panel for Drainage Design and Flood Protection Measures earlier this month.  This includes a $750 million project to improve Singapore’s drainage capacity, particularly at six major canals like the Geylang River, Alexandra Canal and Rochor Canal which will be increased by 30% to 45%.

PM on Budget 2012

Prime Minister revealed that the focus of Budget 2012 will be on Singapore’s longer-term future and growing the economy as a slowdown looms, while looking after lower income households. With this year's economic outlook projected to be between 1 to 3%, he emphasized the government will help companies upgrade and protect jobs, as well as take care of key areas such as housing and education.

Fewer job vacancies in 3rd quarter of 2011

The latest job vacancies report released by MOM on 27 Jan saw job openings fell by 13% to 48,100 vacancies in Q3 2011, from 55,300 in June that year. Service and sales workers were most in demand, accounting for 22% of total vacancies, followed by associate professionals and technicians (17%), and professionals (15%). Amid the tight labour market, 35% of job vacancies remained unfilled for at least 6 months, up from 33% the previous year. Share your thoughts on the latest labour market figures.

Boosting Social Assistance during Economic Slowdown

Minister of State Halimah Yacob said that the Government is prepared to set aside the same amount of ComCare Funds it did for 2009, even though the impending economic slowdown may not be as severe as the previous recession.  She also assured that the Government is prepared to set aside additional funds and flexibility for needy residents, depending on how the situation develops. Share your thoughts with us!

"Some policies you'd better not change." This was the comment given by Minister for Community Development, Youth and Sports, Dr Vivian Balakrishnan at a dialogue with Boon Lay residents. Minister stressed that policies that would lead Singapore forward, secure employment and ensure a better living for fellow Singaporeans would be the top priorities.
